Industrial and music aside, Youtube is a place full of strangeness and wonder. Some of it might even be considered art, or perhaps something even better. While I spend much time watching various computer game review channels (despite not really playing any computer games) and Red Letter Media (despite not watching that many movies), there are many hidden gems to be found. My personal favorite at this moment is Joe On a Boat. It's proof that humor doesn't have to be satirical, or even funny, to be quite amazing.

Joe explains Hinduism

Joe wants to make dolls for Christmas

Thoughts on Joe? Have you ever seen a channel on Youtube that was interesting, just like Joe's is?

As an aspiring "amateur woodworker" I spend a lot of time on the ol' YT watching people make things out of wood - this dude is my all time favorite. He has a great sense of humour, there is one where he builds a coffin for Halloween, the whole time reflecting on his own mortality. There's another one early on where he explains how to use a router and hadn't really figured out his camera and he basically is so close to the camera he looks totally insane.  If you aren't into woodworking you probably won't get as much out of this guys channel as I do.

Short lectures on the subject of narcissism (channel)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWct-0ZynhLuiG0JTp_06wg

Whenever I see things like this, I always think "why, this is material a person with borderline or generally delusional notions of reality would love to watch in order to imagine their significant other is a narcissist, to blame for everything wrong in both the relationship and life in general". Are there any studies on how common it is for narcissists and other types of manipulative people to view other people as narcissists or otherwise mentally ill/abusive in order to justify their own (abusive?) behavior?

Interesting material, no doubt, but if there is anything to my thoughts above its online presence may not be very helpful in a societal sense.

It's probably buried in there somewhere the are masses of videos. The man himself is a narcissist. As a borderline I don't think I watch it like that, it's more like true crime or something; a freak show but that opens up another can of worms. (there are a lot of comments from people recovering from a relationship with a narcissist too).

I'm speculating, so I don't think you need to do that much introspection on account of my theory. It's just a thing I've noticed about these popular psychological presentations - while they may be useful to avoid assholes and/or people with personality disorders that pose a danger to you, they might as well be fodder for such personality types. I remember reading a long description of "psychological abuse" which, to me, read a hell of a lot like the way a person who actually abuses their spouse might view the victim's behavior.

I missed that the guy himself was a narcissist! Going to have to go back and find some videos where he talks about that.

After much introspection: I think you're mostly wrong: a person will follow their own pathology (or be forced down it's path). Like I say this stuff is all basically fluff, you're not learning anything applicable (hopefully I guess) to your own life.

I'm a big fan of the legendary Masaokis. He made dozens of videos of himself cooking bizarre concoctions in a disgusting kitchen while ruminating on philosophy and politics. He's still a bit of a mystery and it's hard to figure out what is the real Masao and what he's playing up for his audience.

This channel is an old archive of stuff, but he himself uploads new videos under masaoHF.

I'm going to talk about what is easily one the most interesting things on Youtube: Thursday Lane.

He got pretty well known for 5 mins a couple of years ago based mainly on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxkF7qmXf0A

It is probably still the best introduction to his world, which is based chiefly on describing his love for smelling the farts of white men and appealing to nobody in particular to be employed in the world of fetish porn.  This is also a key video in that it first (I believe) introduces his bizarre system of subcategorising the experience of different fart types based on age and hair colour.

It will be clear to most people within moments of watching that this guy deals with what would be described as some kind of 'mental condition' but I'm not sharing this based on some cheap chuckle at a nutter.  A bit of time spent sifting through his youtube channel is a truly fascinating glimpse into a genuinely unique, one in a million personality and the world he inhabits.  I totally go along with the premise of this thread that all this youtube gunk gives us moments of true art and, pretentious of me as it'll sound, I truly believe that this guy's stuff inadvertently produces some of the most baffling and other worldly art you could hope to see, whether on youtube, in a gallery or in a list of the most influential experimental films ever.  Among these dozens of video's you'll find 'plays' he performs using toys and inanimate objects including a cast of recurring characters that live in his head, insights into his living quarters and the equally strange people that share it with him, shots of his amazing drawings of men with huge legs and trees alongside written descriptions of how things like colour, nature and elements all tie together, spoken statements about race, sexuality and love and so much more...tied together, of course, within his key agenda: white male farts.

I can't explain this stuff and do it any justice, really...I can only urge you to commit some serious time to digging in and getting to know this guy and assure you that it is genuinely and unironically rewarding: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnzrnDjqa-_cx2GxiD-pB-g/videos

Beyond this, though, I can't urge you enough to just trawl through his youtube channel. As much as serving the chief purpose of talking about fart porn, his channel is obviously a huge part of his daily ritual now and he seems to post several videos a day.

Unfortunately, he has had at least one earlier account shut down so a lot older vids are gone.

I find modern pathology and their Freudian implications interesting: mother-identification  or infantilism?

I don't want to be a dick (who am I kidding, sure I do), but "Freudian implications" are kind of like "homeopatic implications". In other words, if one speaks enough of them, one might feel like there's something there, but there really, really isn't.

People don't secretly want to do stuff that only their J... gross therapist can unearth, and the solution for mental issues isn't going over your terrible childhood and repeatedly blaming your terrible parents for you becoming a terrible person. "Mental health" is just (well)  a matter of not behaving too horribly, realizing your emotions aren't the beginning and end of the world and - if necessary - medicating and/or self-medicating (YAY!) those emotions and behaviors that you are unable to control.

Also: glitch hop is a magnificent complement and alternative to harsh noise.

It can take self awareness; even self actualisation before one can find self control sometimes.
As for glitch hop I cannot speak

It was an attempt at humour, but missed the mark. I don't think there's much value in either psychoanalysis or contemporary psychology, other than it being fertile ground, for humour, and those that take themselves to seriously.
Glitch hop sounds terrible.
