[Ink Runs Recordings]

Ink Runs Recordings is the new label ran by Julien Skrobek (formerly from Ghost, The Sandman Wears A Mask, Ruine, Figures Of Solitude and more).

Whereas previous label Slow Death Records was dealing with Harsh Noise Walll, the purpose of Ink Runs Recordings is to release 'Static Noise' works in the broadest sense, putting the emphasis on textures without excluding construction and atmosphere.

The main influence behind the Ink Runs Recordings sound is Russian painter Kazimir Malevitch and the Suprematist movement he founded in 1913. The intent is to paint sonic canvases relying on geometry and a limited range of sounds.

The fact that Kazimir Malevitch had to rely on traditional painting tools ensured that his work retained the “bruit” of paper and brushes. Ink Runs Recordings aims to provide the same kind of imperfection, through the use of purely analogue gear and live recordings when possible.

Each release comes in the Cdr format, in carefully hand-made packagings re-thought for each batch.

Flesh Clocks - Columns Of Blood (For Adriana Varejão) – IRR01

Flesh Clocks is a project by Charlotte Skrobek (formerly from Gyokusai) and Julien Skrobek. The piece was recorded live at their appartment in front of an invited audience. They each take care of a frequency range with analogue synthesizers processed through an array of pedals. The result is a deep, nocturnal bass drone, joined in after a while by a carefully sculpted layer of static to make the hypnosis complete. Dedicated to the Brazilian artist Adriana Varejão for her exploration of the live flesh motif.

The Girl With The Stanley Knife – Cradle Of Blades – IRR02

The Girl With The Stanley Knife is a solo project by Charlotte Skrobek (formerly of Gyokusai), the name and title a reference to both her graphist activities and her love of slasher movies. This is the most "Harsh Noise" release of this batch, if not always in sound at least in modus operandi. The whole piece is played live, Charlotte rupturing the drones and walls of static generated by analogue synthesizer with bursts of amplified paper, wrapped, teared and contact-mic'ed. There is still plenty of static noise to be enjoyed here, through Charlotte's subtly violent approach.

Serpent Sex - Abased & Sloughing – IRR03

Serpent Sex is a new solo project by Julien Skrobek (formerly from Ghost, The Sandman Wears A Mask, Ruine and Figures Of Solitude). On this release the unchanging wall-making of previous projects is put aside in favor of a stripped-down narrative approach. The 'processed white noise' mentioned on the cover is static altered by a variety of distortion pedals and heavily equalized to produce various sounds, from high pitched sinewaves buried in the mix to dark drones full of undertones, the elements of this paradoxical trip through static.

DEF -  110111101111 - IRR08

DEF is a new audio-visual project by Lorenzo Abattoir (Nascitari). With this project Lorenzo explores Digital static noise and adds visuals to his creation. It is not just a movie with a HNW soundtrack but rather a beautiful Static Noise installation piece. When Lorenzo showed me  110111101111 I knew right away I had to release it as it is not only the best Digital Noise & abstract visual experiment I have seen in a long while, but a magnificient work of art in and of itself.

Velfaerd – Alt Er Vel - IRR09

Velfaerd is a young Static Noise artist from Denmark. This is his first release. There are traces of The Rita influence in the use of 'liquid' sounds and moving sources, but Velfaerd shows he has developped a style of his own. Long stretches of abstract soundscapes, bordering on harshness but never fully giving into it, hints at rhythmic elements buried in the wall that never really reveal themselves, Velfaerd's artful Static Noise composition is a perfect journey through elemental forces and I hope we'll have many more releases from him in the future.

Sadistic Fall – The Ruined Castle - IRR10

After a split with Shiftreghor on T.R.U.P. Records earlier this year, this is Sadistic Fall's second physical release. Sadistic Fall is a HNW project by Julien Skrobek dedicated to filthy, crackling HNW.  This project focuses on crumbling walls of static to evoke the state of Sade's 'Château de Lacoste' after the French Revolution and his inspired by Annie Le Brun's books about the subject.
