There are handful of topics where people discuss one or few releases, but no topic of its own.

I was blown away receiving the  Psychic Rally 10xCD in mail. Haven't seen much talk about it yet, but I guess it's simply because being so new.

Working my way through the Psychic Rally 10-disc set.  A lot of excellent cut-up but I'm left cold by some of it so far.  Need to spend more time with it.

Psychic Rally was a monthly radio show,  which broadcasted more than 60 times between 1989 and 1995 on the alternative non-profit station Radio LORA in Zurich,  Switzerland. Hosted by Joke Lanz (Sudden Infant) and Rudolf Eb.er (Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck),  Psychic Rally developed new forms of radio techniques,  cut-ups,  sound recycling and sound manipulation. Transmission 104.5 includes 10 discs,  featuring 10 broadcasts,  exploring all years,  with a balance between cut-ups,  studio live noise,  theme sessions (Swiss Folk),  etc.. Compiled and digitized in 2013 from the original tapes. Housed in a custom letterpress printed box,  individually numbered with text and photo pamphlet. Edition of 500.

Even loose collectives appeal to me more than individual artists. Not that artists alone couldn't achieve something spectacular, but most often there is process where one needs to see moment of critical mass creating self sustained growth. One can point out almost every musical & cultural happening. Those who remain isolated cases, often dries and dies out.
Most of the groups or artists mentioned above, have moved around the world, developed and taken new turns. But something there seems to fuel the collective spirit.

I had some original Psychic Rally show tapes and had noticed that reissue as looking interesting.

Have a VHS somewhere - I am not sure if it was ever released or was a bootleg - of the amazing Schimpfluch 'spaghetti shows' from the late 90s where the three guys smash their heads into plates of spaghetti with contact mikes on their heads while a female violinist drones with an inscrutable expression in the background, the Schimpfluch guys break free from their chairs and throw the spaghetti everywhere - whole footage maybe ten minutes but unforgettably brilliant. I seem to remember this was filmed in Paris?

When I saw a night of Schimpfluch in 2004 or 2005 it was Dave Phillips' performance with his mouth taped up pacing around making sounds of vocal distress in front of a backdrop video of abattoir footage that stood out for me as one of the best and most thought-provoking pieces of noise and performance art I have ever witnessed - especially the final caption 'This is not just about animal rights'. His 'They Live' album on RRR is one of the more listenable releases of a group of artists whose recordings I don't often choose to actually listen to much - great film that inspired it too.

G*Park has been the most consistently interesting and listenable to me.  I like his take on acoustics.  I see there is a new 2CD.  I'd like to know more about Sudden Infant, so if anyone is interested in throwing up a couple reviews, that would be great.

Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock:

Really into Rudolf's post-aktionism, spaces of silence, cut-up, concrete music. My favourite albums are Morx & Kotschlag + Psycho-Physical Tests And Trainings With Rudolf Eb.er And R&G/Schimpfluch Personnel CDs.

Sudden Infant:

I like how Joke nowadays transform his source materials and his ideas into various styles of experimental music without losing the project's personality and identity.
My first album i heard was the Solothurn CD but Radiorgasm reissue CD was a blow in my head and make me check out S.I.'s old and new material.

Dave Phillips:

His straight field recordings are not my cup of tea but his sonic amalgam of Runzeltirn-ish music in a personal manner are awesome.

Not a whole lot to add except a bit of praise for Raionbashi! Huge fan of his live performances though I have only seen 3. Always seems to use very simple ideas to great effect.  His collaboration with Leif Elggren at the Schimpfluch carnival was outstanding and the head and shoulders highlight for me.  Also saw a collab w/ Dylan Nyoukis at colour out of space which was good fun: both blind folded with whistles trying to grasp around for each other in the pitch black hall, recordings of ominous piano notes (v. typical of some Schimpfluch artists?) and pitched down recording of Dylan's daughter calling out for him like 'where ARE youuuuu?'. Very nice mix!  Youtube vids of other things look great too.

Only recorded matter I have is a track for a Night Science zine (great concrete collage) and onesided live recording of a show w/ Kutzkelina which is not bad but suffers a bit from flat, ambient recording.  Further recommendations would be great. Anyone hear the collab w/ Krube?

Other than this I love Dave Phillips work and interest in nature etc.  I for one am very glad to see strict stances against animal cruelty etc etc in his work though I understand his philosophy runs a lot deeper than simply protesting against it, like HongKong says.  This his use of field recording is a bit under recognised in fields which could potentially really get a lot from it like all the fusty soundscape types!

There was another slide saying something like 'this is about power and about voicelessness'. Obviously the bloke has a brain far too big for his own good and there is no way he would do some dumbed-down simplistic and didactic angle on things. On reflection I really don't ever remember a more powerful noise performance anywhere. From carnivores to vegans, we were all left feeling charged and full of questions and I remember the woman on the door trying to crack 'anyone fancy a bacon butty?' but the intensity wouldn't leave.

I should make clear that while his They Live LP was named after the film, the artwork and timing (GWB administration) makes it more obviously a parapolitical piece of work.

I have a CD under the name OHNE featuring collaborations between Dave Phillips, Tom Smith, WCrap of this parish and Reto Mäder which I remember thinking was pretty good musically but I am put off listening to it due to my dislike of the packaging shape, cover art and the horrible tiny font used on the sleeve which reminded me of the Wire magazine. Isn't it strange what can annoy us to distraction.

I believe the Krube LP is a split.  It's good, you won't go wrong with it.

My favourite is the 10" he did, which was a re-working of a very limited CDR.  Excellent stuff.

I think asking what sounds "similar" of course would be difficult, as there is none, but then question would be how similar? Not long ago I was listening to Raionbashi / Krube split LP, and while there is absolutely significant differences between Raionbashi and R&G, in some ways certain elements enables to lump them together. But even more so, with Krube, I felt that this guy, having that small output (2 tapes besides this?) and even photos reminding of what R&G could do - that all this animal sounds/vocals noises/sound cut ups thing is certainly something to throw into similar category.

Of course it is NOT the same, but you sense the loose group spirit and aesthetic.

David Phillips stuff what I've got, appears like it has become better and better. I probably said in couple topics already that latest LP (on Second Sleep) was mindblowing album!

Listening to the samples on the label's website & they are very good. Lots of building tension & creepiness. I may have to track down a copy. The only other thing I've listened to is a live performance filmed by Bull Art that I liked.

What else has Phillips done that is in the creepy style of the Second Sleep LP?
