Don't know if there's been a post on this recently, but what are some suggestions on interesting podcasts? True crime, music, politics, whatever.

A few I've enjoyed recently are sword & scale (true crime), plague cast (music), horrorhound radio (film), strange familiars (esoteric), harsh truths (noise/pe/etc), used to keep up on more political based ones such as red ice radio, but the new "alt right" ones have left me wanting.

If you haven't heard Last Podcast on the Left I'd give it my strongest recommendation. The episodes are heavily researched and they cover everything from serial killers to cults to conspiracy theories. And they're funny as hell. My personal favorites would be the Leonard Lake and Charles Ng episodes, the Aum Shinrikyo episodes and the more recent Carl Panzram episodes. A nice mix of humor and well done research.

If you're into history I'd recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. Each topic is discussed in insane detail without becoming too boring. Sometimes it gets a little repetitive but I think that's just so you don't forget the massive amount of information that's discussed. The episodes on Münster Rebellion and World War I were really good.

And if I can be excused for doing a little self-promotion, two of my friends and I do a podcast called Motel Hell where we cover a mixture of true crime, porn, weird news, medical oddities and review records and movies. It's rough around the edges but maybe someone here will enjoy it.  I've admittedly grabbed some info from the true crime thread in the past for the podcast.

Glad to see some LPOTL love. Most true crime fans I know dismiss them as being too jokey, but I love that it's well researched/accurate while also feeling like an enjoyable conversation. My favourite podcast for sure.

+1 for LPOTL and Sword & Scale.

Recommendations for more podcasts similar to S&S?

True Crime

True Murder - The host interviews authors of True Crime books. lots of insight into the crimes, also good reference if there was a book you might have been interested in

Small Town Murder - 2 comics discuss murders that happen in a small towns. very amusing

True Crime Garage - 2 guys taking True Crime. a lot of 3/4 part episodes where they go into a lot of detail about the cases

Crime In Sports - same 2 guys from Small Town Murder but the focus on murderers/crime with people who come from a sports background

Generation Why - another interest podcast, they have a lot of episodes. for only being about an hour each episode they got into a lot of details about the case

I'd like to find some music podcasts with emphasis on the talking about the music rather than playing the music. Stuff like The Antidote Podcast, where two australian talkative guys reviews three albums (mostly in the noise vein) per episode.
Any suggestions on more similar ones?

Harsh Truths Podcast is pretty solid and frequently funny. Each episode so far has primarily been interviews/conversations with harsh noise or PE artists (usually American). Last episode was hilarious.

Will try it, but I often prefer people talking about music, and not interviewing the artists. But thanks! I sure will try it.

Recently listened to Bundyville - it's about the Bundy Standoff (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundy_standoff) but goes beyond this as well - tackles issues of land management, mormon faith and politics - recommended.

Currently listening to Wild Thing which is about Bigfoot/Sasquatch - if you're into this kind of stuff it's not a bad listen so far.

Just finished The RFK Tapes - from the guys that are responsible for Crimetown (2nd season of that one is now running on Spotify only - for some reason) - basically re-visiting the conspiracy theories behind the RFK assassination - found this to be interesting after having watched the PBS documentary series on the Vietnam War fairly recently - manages to shed some light on the political climate of an era but also is kind of just a summary of 40 years of "investigation" done by people that have nothing else to fill their lives with.

Just started on Caliphate - NY Times Podcast - 2 episodes in and it looks more like a celebration of what could be called random embedded journalism so far...see where it goes.

Posting the Merzcast more as an excuse to revive this thread so maybe people can contribute with more art (music, films, painting, etc) focused podcasts and maybe some philosophy ones? i am really new to this so even old stuff that is taken for granted is way out of my league right now.

http://www.merzcast.com/

Greh Holger, Mike Connelly and guest delightfully talk about Merzbow albums.

Dr. Death

pretty interesting story about a former neurosurgeon who seemed to know what he was doing prior to the surgeries but once he got people on the table, he fucked it all up. killed a few people, maimed/crippled more
