There's recently been a trend to publicize lists of the gear used on classic Techno/EBM recordings, including those of Skinny Puppy and Front 242. Has this ever been done with any of the classic PE artists like Whitehouse and MB? I'd love to know what synths and outboard gear they used.

That was the primary synths of Whitehouse right?

The myth has it that Whitehouse used a broken Wasp. True or not I suspect they also used other gear than that. The MS10 and MS20 features on every German project you can think of. It's easier naming the very few Germans who don't use the MS machines. I can only think of two.

apparently is very easy that the wasp was broken since they seemed to break very easily, especially where used live.
the cheap plastic chassis and pots were very very weak apparently.

Let's not forget the Vox phasers. I believe they were used by pretty much "everyone" back then?

On Cog Dominance from 1986, Putrefier used Korg MS10, Jen SX1000, Ibanez DDL, Vox phaser, Coloursound distortion, a Peavey amp with spring reverb and various metals and mic.

I have no problem believing that the Wasp was broken since it's widely considered to be a cheap piece of shit but I doubt it was the only thing they used. Considering how absolutely kick ass brutal their sound was back then it's safe to assume they used other better bits of equipment as well. Either way...boring.

How about the number of bands that used the MS10? Anenzephalia and GO in the early days at least. Bar the samples it was more or less the exclusive machine for Altamont Rising. Same for recent STAB and ZSS recordings. I believe Taint/Mania used one for a long time as do STROM.ec. I own a ton of gear now but the MS10 continues to hold a very special place.

Especially MS-20 is great. It can be used for "known PE sounds", but much much... much further than that. Complexity of it isn't like modular, but still, almost endless possibilities and endless learning process what exactly does what and why.  I think many other synths you learn way easier.

MS20 is my fave piece of gear.
Classing droning sound, very rich  of features, not to mention endless filter possibilities.

No question of the MS20 being superior in terms of ability and complexity but for earsplitting rawness the MS10 is hard to beat.

I expect many of the coming classics over the next 5-10 years will feature the MS20 Mini.

I second that!

don't know if I will ever do a classic, but got my hand on the min as soon it was out and worth every penny...

I've always wondered what kind of gear Marco Corbelli used to get such ghastly sounds. Most pictures/video dont give a very clear view....any clues?

Most sounds came from a crumar synth. Rare Italian machine. And probably one of the best fixed architecture monosynths ever made.

CRUMAR. Ace synth. Very rare to get hold of these. Was looking for a specific type last time I was dwn there, but without luck. Search on youtube for samples.
