"Bashing", you say? Laughing at, sneering at, making fun of, being condescending towards, even complaining about - that's definitely why I'm here.

But bashing? Please. Some of us have standards.

The crushing limitations of language and the written word.  'Bashing' is a flawed term but one, I think, that usefully encapsulates all of the things you mention here.  Maybe it's a UK thing.  I hope so.  We love to bash things, see.

The EODM vocalist has done a few interviews saying basically the same thing. He's kind of an interesting guy. There's one article that I read before the terrorist attack about how much drugs he does & that he has to get them from gay bars but he cleans up before going on tours.

I guess being a mega-conservative who buys all his drugs from gay bars is kinda interesting.

It's sort of a new generation, perhaps best exemplified by the likes of Gavin McInnes and Jim Goad. Circumstances like the fact that "PC" is now a big business and government doctrine (prone to engaging in more or less repressive censorship), the insistence on stuff like having men invading women's toilets, and of course actual social problems related to various minorities, but not to "white racism", have made people who probably would have been (or even have been) left wing punks a few decades ago turn "conservative". It has quite little to do with conservatism as an ideology, less to do with the more "traditional" US conservatism of the Bible Belt and nothing what so ever to do with the Beltway republican racket.

It is interesting, either way.

I think it has a lot to do with those things, and people like Gavin McInnes are like the poster boys.

Couch it in whatever terms you want, "new generation", "used to be left-wing punks", "PC gone mad", and...uh..."men invading women's toilets", but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's probably a mega-conservative guy buying speed in a gay bar.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

nah, it's half good.

I missed this article and only read it today after it linked from this article about lay-offs. Vice - "progressive" in modern culture, same old shit in basic industrial relations.

I wonder if there is a way to pinpoint exactly the moment it swung from "I'm not a racist but..." to "I'm not against free speech but...".

I do hate these Charleston. It's like the whole quote is caving in on itself as I read it, and it hurts my head. If there is ever a protest against protesters, I'll attend. The apparent logical problem would, as far as I understand protests, not be an issue.

In all fairness, they very rarely claim not to be against free speech.

I often wonder if the Outrage Brigade are that stupid that they just take whatever bait is laid before them, or if they are aware that they are being played and just cynically play along anyway.
