There is topic about good magazines, but this is so good I decided rather to open topic of its own.

http://www.richardsonmag.com/

Issue #7 came out this year. First one is from 1998. Slowly published magazine cover sex, art, obscurities. Unfortunately I only have #6 and 7 so can't really comment how progress has been. Interviews with somewhat exceptional porn stars, artists of all sorts (Steward Home, Trevor Brown, Araki, McCarthy, etc etc. just few to mention). Lots of names I barely follow, some names familiar. It's thick, c. 150 pages A5, glossy fashion magazine type, but includes all sorts of provocative and nasty things. They have enough budget (it's a 35 USD magazine..) to get Araki shoot bondage feature of US porn star, but also enough balls to write about (with extensive visual documentation) vintage porn magazine publishers who'd deal with bondage, scat, beasts, kids, amputees, etc. without making any sort of apologizes for the content.

Latest issues is good for including pieces from D'Agatas book "ICE". I have meant to write about that in forum, but sometimes doubting how many actually are interested in reading reports of art books covering photography & text about filthy sex with cambodian junkie whores? Apparently enough people to feature multiple page feature in magazine like this.. but... Lets see if would write about it later on.

Where to buy this? Online from their site obviously, but there is probably worldwide special magazine dealers who sell it too. Don't be fooled by neat & fashionable front covers. Magazine is very good.

Never heard of this before, looks a great magazine but very expensive. Amazing what 'art' can get away with of course. I'll try to pick a copy up in Manchester at my favourite art pervert shop there.

FreakAnimalFinland

This looks more of magazine that is sold in regular magazine shops rather than "perv" / "sex shops".
There IS blatant sexuality there, involving bondage, urination, etc. But also very large profile things like interviews with author of American Psycho or such.
I think this DEATH ISSUE = #7 is much harder than #6. I don't think their website or pre-view videos do justice for the magazine itself. There is actually also some TG / Psychic TV releated artworks too.

Weird cross-post coming up... for anyone attending the CON-DOM/Skullflower/Mutant Ape/Spoils & Relics/Half An Abortion gig in Leeds this Wednesday who's still after a copy of Richardson, give Village Bookstore in the Corn Exchange a visit - they now have it in stock. Perfect reading material between acts!

Bring your copy, I'd like to take a look!

Figured I'd dredge this ancient topic back up - the upcoming issue (A10: Morality) sounds interesting, especially the Porn Noise article: https://us.richardsonshop.com/news/latest/

Haven't kept up with their output since buying Issue 7 on Mikko's recommendation - the price stung at the time but I guess it's paid for itself now if I ever decide to sell it. Seems like Richardson as a brand mainly focus on street fashion and overpriced accessories nowadays...

ME TOO!  ;-)

D'Agata is amazing! I'm trying to get everything I can from his publications.

There is huge double book packaged in folder:
Terry Richardson: Vol. 1: Portraits Vol.2: Fashion.

It came c. 5 years ago.

Info says:
This first full-career monograph, featuring two decades of iconic fashion and celebrity editorial photographs, reveals the enormous influence and impact that Richardson has made on contemporary style, culture, and photography. Since Terry Richardson first rose to prominence in the 1990s, he has shocked and intrigued the world with his singular view and signature style of bold lighting, hypersexualized styling, and striking, off-kilter glamour. From glossy, high-end fashion photographs to raw in-studio portraits, Richardson's work has had an unmistakable impact on contemporary visual culture. This much-anticipated monograph is the first to cover Richardson's complete career to date. It chronicles more than twenty years of photographs, advertising campaigns, and editorial work, revealing the evolution of Richardson's style, an unexpected mix of glamour and rawness. This two-volume set, which is separated into Richardson's fashion photography and celebrity portraiture, features more than 600 photographs and includes early, rarely seen magazine work from now-defunct publications; iconic and influential work for magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, The Face, i-D, Vice, and Interview; advertising work for brands such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Chloe, and A.P.C.; and very intimate studio portraits. This compilation is an intriguing look at the mark Richardson's work has made on fashion, photography, and pop culture, and it captures his edgy, provocative style in a book that is as unusual and unforgettable as the photographer himself.

Portrait book is way less interesting than fashion. Portrait is most of all famous US celebrities. Some unusual photos yes, but most of them nothing that special, nor I am interested in "celebrities".  Fashion book, is actually very good. Many photos here, is either raw or unusual, where one would not really think there is some clothing or accessories that are being promoted. It's more like.. ehm.. product placement appears in otherwise interesting photo. Almost 350 pages in full color and big size.

Looks pretty interesting for sure, this is a different Richardson though; the magazine is named after the fashion stylist/designer Andrew Richardson whereas the photographer is Terry Richardson.

FreakAnimalFinland

ah yes, you are right! But also Terry Richardson (no relation) has been contributor of the Andrew Richardson's magazine!

Got the new issues simply for the Noise/Porn article. What an absolute shame. Whoever put it together clearly has zero integrity because they clearly just took images from discogs and blew them up. Problem is, images of j-cards such as Masonna's Open Your Cunt have extreme pixilation. If they actually cared, they could have bought an original copy for 250 and gave it a proper high res scan.
It was cool to see something like this in this kind of magazine, but, wow, they butchered it.

FreakAnimalFinland

I think simply asking around a bit, could get you good quality pictures.
For example on other topic, about Ramleh book, I did mention this too. Very very odd thing that publisher who should have the original very common records in his shelves, or at least band members would, and clearly just low-res pics pulled out from discos for several titles...

Would've expect something from a low-run home-made DIY zine, where faults like that are acceptable, but from a expensive fashion zine you should expect a lot better indeed. Strange decision.

How is the writing of the article? Short, long? Typical "noise is hip now o look Merzbow it's so cool" or a little more in-depth?
