Born Against, Citizens Arrest, Rorschach

Throw Life's Blood, Absolution, and some other odds and ends from 88-91 and you're really cooking with fire.

Here's a sick double EP from Norway in the late 90's that never quite got it's due. Always kinda reminded me of Born Against and some of the more melodic qualities of HHIG. Definitely has some kind of "emotive" riffing but is still firmly a hardcore record.

Also recommend other contemporaneous NO business like Kort Prosess, Alltid Jaget, and raging older bands like So Much Hate, and Kafka Prosess.

Knuste Ruter are the best current Norsk HC band keeping the old flame alive in my humble opinion. Then there's Kolokol, Ordrenekt, Statens Menn from the 90's...

When it comes to the older bands, Svart Framtid, Bannlyst, Barn Av Regnbuen, Siste Dagers Helvete or Data Morgana definitely deserve a mention.

And Fader War as well for being one of the earliest Discharge copycats.

Pisscharge - Edën 2018

What an awful name, but by the end of the first track, I'd forgotten that.*  A little of everything here, and it is ALL good.  Traditional Brazilian/South American hardcore with full-on anger and vibrant energy.  80's Crossover and thrash via tracks like "Marielle" and "Templos Malditos".  Prog bass lines for pepper.  Italian HC vibes.  Because I hear "Crush the Demoniac" everywhere, sort of like I do various riffs from the first Dayglo Abortions' album, take this for what little it is worth, but I hear "Crush the Demoniac" in "Siglos de Sangre".  Some would prefer it more raw and less full, but not me.  I like the more professional, powerful sound.  Nothing's sterile here.  If you listen to the rehearsal tracks, which is also available via their bandcamp, you can decide for yourself.

*coincidentally in the charge, this made me think of the underrated 1996 Recharge album that also had a weak moniker and poor visual aesthetic.  Musically, they have nothing in common, but the Hamburg '42 album also had unusually large production and mostly went unnoticed.  I liked that album on most fronts, but mentioning it invited crickets to conversations.

There are plenty, from Sairaat Mielet to Kolmas Paiva and Harass to the first Times Square Preachers 7".

if you want to dig into Finnish HC, run through the Fight Records catalog.  of course, you can also dig through the amazing catalog of Propaganda Records.

Aaritila - Ennen Huomista 2008 - SMOKING GBH/Finnish thrash crossover.
Jarjestyshairio - s/t 1982 - gritty, raw Finnish HC.
Kylma Sota - 10 Tracks 2010 - Finnish HC - the truly buzzsaw guitars are up my alley - love the echo on the vocals - this album floors me...EVERY TIME - by far my favorite from them and a strong list consideration for "best of decade 2000-2010".
Tampere SS - check out the records on Havoc.
Totuus
Uutuus - all their records are great; the LP on Genet is...yeah, they're all great records.
Varaus – 1/1 LP

Listening a lot to Free. Despite the unoriginal name this is one of the best records I have listened to in ages. Still have to understand why they are not called Have Heart since they sound 100% alike yet more direct.

It has that early Negative Approach rawness.
