Brutal! I didn't pay a lot of attention to the going's-on in the mall. I did see some footage of the collapsed parking garage on tv & thought a huge bomb went off. I'd think some photos from the inside should show up eventually...

As this sort of thing seems to happen a lot in the US I was curious about what the usual sort of outcome is for these cases? If the police involved can show there was a potential threat to themselves do they get let off? From what I've read from this story it kind of seems fair enough, not that he died obviously, but if he's walking around with a fake AK-47 you really don't want to raise that up to a policeman when they tell you to drop the gun and have their gun pointed at you.

I think the standard route of action is to delay proceedings until everyone other than the victims family forgets and then give the police their old positions back, full pay for the inconvenience of the time off.

Also - as the story notes, officers were BEHIND the child. They basically shot him in the back without even knowing he was a kid, it just looked like he raised the gun

"The subject turned toward the deputies, and as he was doing that the barrel of the weapon was rising toward the deputies," Henry said. The deputy then fired rounds, killing the boy."

That's right there in the article.

Here's an article that mentions an eyewitness who says something different:

Cops need to start wearing Go-Pro cameras. It can only help them. Whether it shows exactly what they say happened or stops them from being assholes. And helps to  convict them when they are assholes.

cop who pepper sprayed protestors at uc davis received a $38,000 settlement for "psychological damage" awarded by worker's compensation laws.
Maybe he should have thought, perhaps pepper spraying a group of people is a bad idea. I don't know.

It worked out well for him so it wasn't really all that bad of an idea.

He got very lucky because the defense lawyers representing Uc Davis chose to take his lawyers settlement offer instead of taking him to court.

Capitalism at its utmost finest.

I think it's amusing that rape victims try to turn their merely surviving following the incident into some sort of victory, like they won over the perpetrator even though they suffered unalterable psychological trauma and faced and/or continue to face difficulties following their abuse for years, often from close friends and families.
