Do you want to move on down to Florida?

I'm guessing it's the goddamn humidity.

There's been this Weird Florida or something series on Slate recently that's pretty good. I haven't seen a new one in a while, so maybe it's done, but there were about 90 installments.

Can any American explain why it's always Florida that provides the most bizarre or extreme crime stories?

Tons of retirees, difficult to find work there and the community couldn't a fuck since they don't need to work anymore, the heat and humidity, every City and town is basically a collection of strip malls, fast food chains and tourist shops, the immigrants, southern Florida is fucking dirty, etc. I haven't been there in 2 years though, but generally when I was going there every summer these seemed to be the ruling negative aspects of the state. I'm sure there are redeeming qualities outside of Death Metal and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I'm glad something actually came of this- this took place in the city where I live and a lot of people I know knew the girl. It's surprising that they actually laid charges to be honest, didn't seem like it would ever happen.

I've been running across police interview videos of Israel Keyes on a news channel the last day or so. I don't remember hearing about him last year but I like that he burglarized homes to fund his hobby of murder:

A squalid and messy public murder - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-23486509

And this story brought to life by a blog from someone who knew him - http://malignantnarcissism.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/ty-medland-convicted-murderer.html - really depressing reading.

Attacked his daughters with a bullwhip. Read parts of the interrogation with one of the daughters. Not very uplifting.

Incredible dvd collection!

Seems like if the solution to gun crime is more laws that regulate law-abiding buyers then the same would work for the regulation of the internet, digital cameras, cellphones, & computers to make it more difficult to find/distribute kp. Everyone that buys a pc or a digital camera needs to undergo a Federal/State/Local background check for sex crimes, etc.
