IC-017 All Ords 'Sources and Methods' cassette

All Ords is Mark Groves and Joanna Nilson. Sources and Methods consists of domestic voice and sound
works generated during 2020. Pieces from this release have appeared previously as a part of Colour Out of
Space at a Distance International Festival of Experimental Sound and Art, and Dylan Nyoukis' Fae Ma Bit Tae
Ur Bit on Resonance Extra.

It explores the collision of labour, wealth disparity, domestic life and the subconscious, as told through book
readings, dreams, and the sounds of a temporarily cloistered, claustrophobic home life and a vacated, virus ridden
inner city business district.

The background of ambient dread and government surveillance associated with the piece's production is
pushed further by the title itself- Sources and Methods referring to the mode of intelligence collection and
analysis deployed by the CIA. This is also reflected in the artwork, which draws directly from William
Friedkin's Sorcerer (1977), a favourite of the duo which also mirrors, in a figurative sense, the male-female
binary nature of the recording itself.

commentary of the contemporary art world. 'Total Work of Art' presents work exhibited in Placeholder at
Apartment 13 Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island, USA in 2020.

IC-019 Red Wine and Sugar 'Donkeys Are Led by Donkeys' 10"

New work from the duo of Samaan Fieck and Mark Groves, generated during Victoria's extended COVID-19
lockdowns in 2020. 'Donkeys Are Led by Donkeys' is mixed and manipulated on the B-side by Mattias
Gustafsson (Altar of Flies).

Red Wine and Sugar is the collaborative project of Samaan Fieck (music/sound) and Mark Groves
(voice/text). Both have been active as part of innumerable projects in the Australian underground music
scene for many years: Groves as frontman for noise punks True Radical Miracle, in power electronics
projects such as Dead Boomers and Absoluten Calfeutrail, and, most recently, in the woozy tape loops and
colloquial soliloquies of his solo project Absurd Cosmos Late Nite; Fieck as a shadowy presence on guitar
and sundries, shaping the explosive noise outbursts of Smash Tennis, the post-Dead C basement jams of
outfits such as Ghost Gums, and the deconstructed rock moves of Where Were You at Lunch.
As gratifying as these projects have been, Red Wine and Sugar is where Fieck and Groves follow their
respective muses furthest down the rabbit hole, occasionally surfacing to offer up another slice of their
radically idiosyncratic combination of drily delivered text and concrète sound. Groves' close-miked voice
delivers a fragmentary litany of closely-observed suburban aperçus, touching on diets quickly abandoned,
insomnia, peak-hour commutes, and the anxiety of the everyday. Occupying an uncomfortable position
somewhere between ironic distance and earnest confession, his words capture the lowest rung of a 'general
all-purpose experience – like those stretch socks that fit all sizes' (John Ashbery). These words are woven
into Fieck's intricate sound works, meticulously edited and detail-rich environments that touch on classic
electroacoustic techniques, gritty tape-trader underground moves, and distant strains of drum machines and
synth that pay tribute to the great works of 80's art pop (Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Jane Siberry).

IC-020 Creep of Paris 'Karaoke World I and II' LP

New work from Thomas LaRoche (Research Laboratories).
___________________________________________________________________________

Notes and observations on C.O.P. 'Karaoke World I and II':

Side A
1. "The eyeless female is attracted to the tip of a twig"
Broken music hall ice skating on slush, bloodsucking insects, the scent of butyric acid. TG / Jarman
"Journey through a body" remade as "Journey Through Filtration Tank and Musty Beaker"
2. More ice skating, this time in the insect house, breathing liquid nitrogen. The reptile house features gas
bottles trying to summon Bigfoot. A church organ rigged to an old ice cream van buzzes by; one of the early
but failed attempts at cross-channel flight.
3. Inside the reactor / fume cupboard. Some of the more sociable Victorian folks who enjoy showing up on
EVP recordings are having a party.
4. Drilling a hole through a very tiny skull, before a Brigitte Lahaie type practices reading an audiobook in a
car wash made out of her own hair. Some bourgeois ghosts attempt a trumpet salute but the microphone is
covered with moss and twigs. "Come and pray at this pile of turds"

Side B
1. Early Super 8 recording of future members of Mütilation (Les Legions Noire) during a typical breakfast
situation. The teenage metalleurs are refusing to eat their corn flakes and demand more cherry schnapps.
Their unholy screeching causes electromagnetic interference and the sodastream eventually conks out,
allowing the Victorian EVP guys party channel to break through once more.
2. Stirring tests. Borax / flesh mixture, in wooden centrifuge.
3. Poison dart experiments in jungle zoo. Recorded through WW1 gas mask.
4. Beer can thrown into CERN reactor tests I-IV.
5. Greta Garbled.
6. Rotten corpse stapling factory, St. Denis.
7. Yeti burps, no carriage available.
