New Forces

Five new releases from New Forces are now available.

Kjostad - Warlord CD

Warlord is the latest full-length album from Kjostad, the follow up to last year's Extinctionist released on Chondritic Sound. This is the evolution of Kjostad's approach in every aspect, an attempt to distill 7 years of development into the project's finest work yet. The place-based field recordings are more intimate. The environmental explorations are more harrowing. Hissing tape loops collide with pulsing electronics. The noise clatters, clangs, and grinds across six tracks that investigate a violent past while anticipating an even darker future. Warlord sounds like shallow graves on the forest floor; like cold air on a cloudless night; like thousands of years of geological cruelty distilled into brief moments. The album builds to a climax that is either hopeful or bleak, depending on the individual listener's experience. Warlord is a soundtrack to world's end, and to world's beginning.

There is also a limited special edition of "Warlord" available at the New Forces store. Packaged in a black box with new artwork, each comes with the standard Warlord CD, two bonus tapes of material exclusive to the special edition, each packaged in a case with j-card, 8 art inserts, and fresh princess ground-pine recently harvested from the shores of Kjostad lake. As the pine dries each box will be permanently imprinted with the smells and feelings directly related to the sounds found on Warlord.

Wasteland Jazz Unit - Assembled Rejection Cassette

A brilliant new outing from the masters of pure noise, Wasteland Jazz Unit. Blasting off from the shattered intersection of Incapacitants and Borbetomagus, Assembled Rejection channels high octane ecstasy that will have you raising your fist to the sky as your vision turns to static.

Scald Hymn - Lilac Drain Cassette

Scald Hymn is a pure representation of American noise. The distilled sound of sweaty house shows, post-industrial refuse, and an artist brave enough to inject moments of beauty into the existential dread that is channeled through fried electronics and jagged scrap metal. We're all cheering for Scald Hymn, because Scald Hymn exemplifies the reasons we care about noise.

Scathing - Pale Faced Feeders Cassette

Scathing has emerged as one of the strongest current practitioners of harsh noise. Dynamic and violent, this walks the razors edge between thuggish Americanoise and hyperspeed Japanese thrash. Recent outings for the likes of Oxen, Dead Gods, and Dada Drumming have honed Scathing's assault into an unstoppable force, and "Pale Faced Feeders" is a statement of dominance. This is head-banging noise.

Missing - Missing Cassette

There is a special discounted deal on all 5 new releases available at the New Forces web store.

Shelled out for the Kjostad box and the Scald Hymn tape.

For now I will say that the Scald Hymn tape is EXCELLENT and continues in the strong vein of the myriad of recent releases.  It's blown out noise with surprising moments of calm and scattered instrumentation (some foley); and this resonates very strongly with me.

For the Kjostad box I need to spend time with this yet before commenting.
