looks very interesting, does it "basically" process/warp and mix source sound and add effects, right?

I think a couple of things make this very interesting for those into noise - that Alessandro Cortini ( Nine Inch Nails ) helped in the design and the fact that it allows physical interaction with the process makes in much more than a noise module or processer. I did have a 0-coast
which i think is a great introduction to modular - but the Strega is it would seem far more playable... anyway May is the release date...  ;-)

It just sounds like an expensive Monotron to me.

I guess its expensive as its not mass produced, but i don't think the comparison is valid as the Strega is designed to be less of a keyboard more of a sound / noise processor... which can be integrated into a euro rack. Montron is great vale but essentially a mini keyboard analogue synth. As the Strega is patchable and eurorack friendly i think its possibilities  are far greater. Look at the in depth video @ 29 minutes...

I believe they both use the same delay chip (PT2399) which is OK but which "quality" or limitations make unfit in an instrument commanding such a price in my humble opinion. It would have been awesome with a DSP for instance, which we know Make Noise master since they released the Mimeophon which is freaking awesome. I think they make people pay for limitation, design, and Cortini's name, as comparatively speaking, a brand new Lyra 8 is also cheaper!

Anyway, we all have different expectations about that stuff but this was the first time I was disappointed by Make Noise.

And I don't think the keyboard argument is valid. The Monotrons have ribbon-controllers and are in no way usable in quantized ways. They're so tiny you can't use their "keys" as such.

The price for the Strega in the UK is about £100 less than the Lyra 8. Though it's not available until May. The price / component point is very valid, I have a collection of cheap Android Phones non costing more that £40.00 and fake watches, a self winding 'Rolex' which cost £45.00...
But for me from what I've heard of the Strega, Lyra and Mimotron the Strega has a far more 'noisy'  less musical sound / structure. The Lyra seems aimed at soundscapes, and even with the ribbon controller the Mimotron is very analogue synth sounding.  From my experience to create noise, as in non melodic random stochastic work the musicality built into most synths makes this difficult. Which is why euro rack lends itself to this, I should say some euro rack. The Make noise Woggle Bug and Morphagene in particular. Other than that I've an old Yamaha TG77 and SY99 whose FM synthesis is very good at making noise. Sample based synths are IMO more difficult to break out of their musicality. But as they say each to their own. But I don't think the component cost is all in design and development of new modules. I did think about getting a Mimeophon  and may well do- but again from what i've heard it has a very distinctive sound. I did have an  Echophon but found this in processing noise not as 'violent' as I wanted.

Anything with Cortini involved is a must have for me. I missed his previous gear that were very good and was able to borrow from a friend... And despite the Hyper Make Noise is still designing great beasts for noise makers. Surely prices are not the most popular, but it is worth..

At some point when they are regularly available Im going to grab one for sure.

The processing is what intrigues me the most hands down.
