MD 015 - The Rita / Gamiani "Semenyaka Toe Box / De Saint-Ange Thigh High" C20(Description by Miguel Perez)
The Rita has been since the late 90's a big institution on how static noise has to be done. Obsession, focus and individuality are the main characteristics of Sam McKinlay's body of work. Sharks, WWII Divers, Guns, BA/KU Skaters, Nylons, Flappers, Makeup and currently ballerina feet and positions (among others), are some of the themes recurrent to his releases. This time the ballerina toe obsessions lies and focus on the soviet Ludmila Semenyaka toes and movements. All thru the clinic development of static and textures created from a deep study of the subject matter. The textures are always changing and barely this can be classified as motionless HNW. Coming from The Rita you will always be subject to many images in constant flow and movement. Fascinating for any fan of his work and a great starting point if you don't have a clue about who The Rita is. While Gamiani from Sweden's Johan Strömvall Hammarstedt (who also is responsible for the long running Ominous Recordings and has been bringing a lot of fresh air into the recurring theme of nylon obsessed HNW). This time he offers a track of cascading static that is unstoppable and fierce. It is a great companion to the Rita track since the static development is not stationary or saturated. The exploration of waves and subtilities makes this ride a very enjoyable one. The feel of darkness, nylon and purity of obsession are there and it feels as a great addition to his growing body of work. Another ace work from a great act. MD 016 - Straight Panic "I Have Bricked Up My Heart and Black'd My Eyes" C30(Description by Miguel Perez)
Thomas Boettner delivering a fresh and invigorating dose of industrial electronics. Focusing more in atmosphere than ultimate aggressive assaults. This is a perfect soundtrack for a dark horror end of times type movie, With tracks such as Cocaine Breath that razor sharp delivery of electronic punishment via high frequencies while a rolling cement machine envelopes the whole tunnel feel. Clear vocal attack that is very discernible and upfront, also tracks that are Harsh noise and spoken word sounding as a lost post apocalyptic transmission, to tracks such as Stained Sheets with menacing, dark, leveled and blacked excellent metallic delivery that forms visuals along the vocals creating some sort of ambience to the spoken word. Collection of tracks that serves as introduction to this Fargo, USA Power Electronics unit that focuses on religious and political extremism and the psychology of control. There is no time for double or cryptic feelings here, the attack is pure, direct and disciplined. Each track has its own soundscape that pummels you into a hypnotic state, that brings extremism, revolution and total disdain for the current and past political power. The assault brings to mind early UK acts like Suttcliffe Jugend or Con-Dom, but this has its own personality. Another US PE act out of Michigan, USA with a short, but very prolific history of leftist themed releases questioning the current state of things in the first world. From false flags, bullshit news, libertarian culture and more. It seems that the US power electronics current interests lies on the inevitable revolution that is breeding in the heart of the country. Many leaning to one side, others pushing the other. But is time for extreme answers and this project seems to be one of those voices raising from the depths. Air raids of feedback with motion movements of knobs giving place to a subtle layer of drones and the fierce raging vocals shouting at the distance. C10 limited to 50 copies.
