I mentioned in another thread some time ago that Tom deserves his own thread. I will not be able to afford the heavy weight XXL book, but I will definitely pick up this one. And I hope that the "vol I" in the title means that there will be more to come...

For a long while the only place in town to see this film was a porn shop around the corner but they only had it for rental in the booths and it was ridiculously expensive to rent. I wanted to do a review of the film, watching in a wank both with the others punters jacking of next door, glory holes etc. It seemed like a fitting surrounding to see the film. My editor at the time didn't like the idea a bit and refuse to pay for the cost....

TOM OF FINLAND RETROSPECTIVE 16.1.-18.12.2011

The legendary homoerotic works of Tom of Finland have become iconic stereotypes of masculine gay men throughout the world. Many people will be surprised to learn that arguably the most internationally acclaimed Finnish artist comes from Kaarina, a neighbouring town to Turku. Now, Tom of Finland alias Touko Laaksonen (1920-1991) is coming home!

The Homotopia organisation (from Liverpool in the UK) will provide Turku with an extensive collection of Tom of Finland's works, from sketches made during his early years to later works. The works in the exhibition will come from the Tom of Finland Foundation collection in Los Angeles. Along with the exhibition, public lectures will take place on queer culture and its associated visual arts.

Latest episode of the Simpsons had a Tom of Finland joke! "Tom of Shelbyville", ha ha!

HA! I caught that on The Simpsons.

There were a couple of other  artists I remember doing extreme work. The Hun from Portland OR did a lot of ape-like men eating shit, fisting, etc. & there was Martin of Holland who did videos and art like The Hun. They were more crude than Tom in style & content.

One of daily tabloids in finland had headline "IS THIS PORN?" couple of days ago. And article about "parents" wondering why there is no age restrictions on the museum for this exhibition. Curator commented that she doesn't think children would be interested. I'd like to see the parents who take their children to museum to see Tom of Finland and then complain about it!
Is this porn? Well, not sure if it includes the totally hc works, but one could assume that's exactly what it is?

Nowadays you see sometimes that Like publishers Tom of Finland hardcover book in discount bins. Black leather type cover with silver foil texts/images on cover and related to exhibition some years ago which included mainly stuff from Finnish private collectors = previously unseen works/sketches/alternative versions.. you also could see the method of the drawing, where he would have rough sketch of image, then re-make of same with more detail, but then finally 3rd piece with the trademark ultra detailed and smooth. Versions would happen of different paper.

To all you philatelists out there: Tom of Finland to appear on stamps in September

QuoteIn September-October 2014, Itella Posti will release seven new sets of stamps, containing a total of 33 new designs. It is a great collection to choose from; the subjects of the new stamps include male drawings by Tom of Finland, autumnal yard and garden scenes painted by Urpo Martikainen, and Jaakko Tähti's photos of Finnish bridges. Other subjects for the end-of-the-year stamps include signs of sky and the change in everyday Finland - and, of course, Christmas.

Pointillist pervert REX exhibition in Amsterdam between April 4 - May 1.

There was a book of REX artwork published in Germany in 2012. I haven't seen the book myself just yet, and people are saying that the repro is flawed... we'll see... better than no book at all, I guess.

The REX book is not that expensive + well worth the price... they screwed up + left out a whole page, the kind of stuff that would make most publishers withdraw the book and print a new ed I guess. No big deal though.

They should have included the one with two guys + a dog + this one

Speaking of Martin of Holland -- since his death in 2011, the web page + all contents are gone. If anyone has any of his art in magazines or if you saved any pics from his site, please get in touch with me.

OK, might have to take the ferry over to Helsinki soon...
