.:Will:.

I record using a Tascam 424 MKii. I will be recording something for a release in the coming months and wanted to know any suggestions of master recording tapes to use? I know High Bias Type II etc but I am talking specifics. Thank you in advance.

You mean specific brands / models ? I would say instead spending your money on Ebay buying good but now old and rare thus expensive branded tapes, buy some blank chromes from Tapeline or other similar and do your job. It will come cheaper and after all you may find the same tape loaded in.

I know this doesn't answer your question, sorry, but had to tell.

i cannot stress how good a fresh type IV sounds. worth hunting down about 5 or so from ebay. i use a tascam 414 mkii for reference.

R.I.P. to my 424, I always used Maxell MS-30 cassettes. Very high quality type II cassettes. I would re-use them many times without any noticeable deterioration in sound quality, and I still use them for at times for mastering.

Not seeing any of the 30s on ebay RN but here is a link to the 20s:
