Don't know if this topic exist but i never any mentions about video games in this forum.
So i'm starting this one for discussions about video games generally, favourite consoles and/or games from it etc.

I'm almost positive this topic existed at one point but i cant find it in the search. That being said, I prefer PC gaming over most consoles. If you can run it on a PC you're just going to have a better and more customizable experience. Especially with the ability to use a joystick or controller for fighting games and the like. However there are games worth owning a console for like a lot of classic SHMUPS/bullet hell games, Bloodborne, Shadow of the Colossus, etc.

I'm a creature of habit and repetition so my favorite games are mostly old and Ive replayed them 20+ times. Top picks would be:

Deus Ex
Half-Life
System Shock 2
Quake, Quake II
Doom, Doom II, Doom 2016
Dark Souls I-III
Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout: New Vegas
eXceed I-III
DoDonPachi
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Samurai Showdown
Katamari Damacy

Been playing a shit load of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds with friends lately.

I'm expanding this topic not only on favourite games, comsoles and such but as well as general other subjects
like if you find Video Games a form of art & discussion about soundtracks.

I haven't been actively into gaming for years, but I'll still play some old stuff now and then. Sneaking into my older brother's room to play the first Resident Evil sparked it all off and those remain some of my all time favorites.

NaturalOrthodoxy

Not owned a console in years but my jam was always Metal Gear Solid (up to MGS4) and the first Deus Ex. The aesthetics of Deus Ex in particular are incredible, dirty grubby cities and labyrinthine government bases. So good.

impulse manslaughter

Grew up with the Sega Master System, Megadrive/32X & Gamegear. Lost interest when i left my parents house..

Ikaruga, Chrono Trigger, Strider 2, and Demon's Souls all get my votes for favorite art/soundtracks, by a longshot.

Dark Souls 1-3 are all great too, but the bleakness of Demon's Souls can't be touched

We're quite big geeks at home so we have a bunch of consoles and games here between my girlfriend and I, but while she enjoys stuff like watching entire commented playthroughs of recent games on Youtube (I caught her doing that for Far Cry 5 today, she's insane), I'm much more of a 16-bits fan instead. I lost the taste when the PS1 appeared and I felt like game developpers privileged graphics over gameplay and fun. I've enjoyed some stuff on the Switch (the latest Zelda is absolutely incredible, and I'm ashamed of the amount of time I spent on Stardew Valley) but these last few days, I finally kicked my ass and hacked one of the girlfriend's 3DS in order to play SNES, Megadrive (my ultimate favorite system forever) and Master System games on the go. Therefore I just started Secret Of Mana and Soleil again...

Ultimate favorites include Sonic 2, Splatterhouse 2, Streets Of Rage, Zelda's A Link To The Past.

And far as soundtracks go, this one has always struck me as incredible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eyRCmqEetE
And then Amiga ones such as Nicky Boom's or Second Samurai's.

Aw shit, DS3 is my favorite game of past 15 years (Invasions!). As for musicwise, you can't beat FF7 and Snes/Nes glory; F-Zero, Power Blade, Castlevania, Duck Tales etc.

This is so great.  Constant musical references/stylings/straight lifts of classic prog.  Even some (perhaps coincidental) likeness to lesser known Japanese progressive groups of the 80s like Pagaent, Mr. Sirius etc.  At least 4 of the track names here are simply just Yes and King Crimson song titles ('Close to the Edge', 'Talk to the Wind')...Brilliant.  Never been a big gamer myself which is why I love it so much when I am exposed to such a clear Prog influence in some of these old game sound tracks.  When you consider how difficult it was to program these things and the comparative back seat the sounds took to the other functions of the game it is almost more impressive that these soundtracks exist than any Prog magnum opus on LP....

One that note, it feels appropriate to share one of the many things I am grateful to Tim Drage/Cementimental for exposing me to:
