Did anyone see Anderson Silva break his leg in half last night?!? The slo-mo video is just sickening! I watched it on global-mma.com

Ronda Rousey throwing Miesha Tate all over the place was pretty awesome, too.

I like the graphic warning beneath the photo:

I read on a forum that there are photos of his shinbone protruding through the flesh...

yeah, i was looking for martial arts thread until something came in the way. Well, it's a pity about A. Silva, but I hope he will not try to make come back after a year or so. He is good, but it'd be best if he leaves the "cage" when he is more or less on the top. Will Weiding keep his top place for long? Somehow I doubt it.
and that Rousey vs Tate fight was great. Looking forward to Joanne Calderwood debut in UFC. Together with Rose Namajunas.

I think Chris Weidman should have had a match with someone else before Silva got his re-match and Silva should have had to prove he deserved another shot at the belt by fighting someone else, too. It would have saved that leg.

I'm not familiar with either Calderwood or Namajunas.

The Rousey vs Tate match maybe my favorite of the year.

There's still a couple of matches from last night I need to watch...

Levas

I saw today that someone tweeted the day before that fight wishing Silva to break a leg (it's some sort of proverb?). Well, unfortunately he did break. I had open fracture of shin a few years back so watching such sort of traumas is with even additional spices.
As for Calderwood - she was fighting in Invicta before. OK fighter with Muay Thai background. I like her sexy Scottish accent. And she is pretty to me for some reason.. here are some highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z7FRrKcG5s. As for Namajunas I'm mainly interested in her because of her relations to Lithuania https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iJ4BKs7JMo

I could've sworn there was already a separate MMA thread, had a look yesterday to comment on exactly this topic, couldn't find it and got distracted before starting a thread.

Bad times for Silva, *may struggle to ever get back in the cage whether he wants to or not. Video is pretty heavy, I imagine it'll be featured heavily in the inevitable "Biggest Fails of 2013" videos that will be all over YT. It's a shame, as I was hoping for a "proper" rematch although Weidman seemed to have him virtually down and out in the first round anyway, very dominant, so I don't know how far it would have run.

Edit: * - I agree with you Levas, I don't think he should, for the same reasons

The only MMA thread I found was about tattoos. I thought there was another also but after a couple searches, I gave up.

I think there's a good chance he's done for. At least, for the next year. I have no idea about the healing of a broken-in-half shin bone or smashed-to-bits
shin bone but it seems like a long time then there's rehab then getting back to training.

I'd be curious to know what Weidman's leg looks like. Seems like he'd have a hell of a bruise.

Levas

I've read about 3-6 months until he can start rehabilitation etc. Medicine in sports is powerful. It took 11 months for me with Ilizarov's apparatus until rehabilitation. with visits to doctor every 2-3 months so that he could callibrate it etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilizarov_apparatus but most likely it's for the ordinary people and not for sportsmen. Watching currently the event. It seems that if you have retarded swag cap and beats headphones, you are the winner. at least from the first 3 fights, heh.

I'm sure he can get back on his feet much faster than the average person. I've banged my shins up quite a bit in mountain bike crashes but nothing really serious. Just sore for a week & bruised. Same with my ribs & bashing my inner thigh up resulting in a huge, nasty looking bruise. The ribs were the worst- painful doing anything.

Rousey is a mess. I saw a documentary about her life. She seems like she has a lot of father issues after he committed suicide (I think?). She was a daddy's girl so after his death, she seem to go a bit wild. Granted, all that seems to also work for her for fighting. When she was competing in Judo, they said she was dominating the girls so much they made her roll with the boys. The docu was on Fox Sports 1 but I do not remember the title of it.

Ronda Rousey: Breaking Ground

Downloading it. thanks.

well, i'm rewatching their fight at the moment. there were people saying that judo is worthless in mma.. Though I wanted Miesha to win, Rousey was better..

3-6 months for recovery:

Those throws are awesome. I like Rousey's previous fight where her bosom kept trying to pop out while they were rolling around all over the place.

Until now, I didn't know what 'checking a kick' actually meant:

I thought it was just moving the leg that is being kicked back out of the way. Or something.

Tim Brown wrecked Josh Barnett pretty good; brutal elbows! Barnett never seems to do much even when he wins & always looks like he's out of shape.

Levas

Do you remember Cory Hill?

Also a kick was checked, the same place right below the knee, hips barely turned etc.

Uriah Hall was good too. And elbows against Barnett, of course. THough he does really seem to be completely out of shape

UFC night 35.

Yoel Romero Palacio against Derek Brunson was the only fight that was truly interesting. Good, dynamic, energetic fight with slightly surprising result.

bitewerksMTB

I watched UFC Fight Night 35 but didn't remember anything other than someone went down from a liver kick.

I don't remember anything from the new Canadian vs Aussie Ultimate Fighter either & it looks like most people didn't even bother watching as the show had very low ratings.

Last Friday night was Maximum Fighting Championship 39 but most of the fights were not very exciting. Here's the line-up/results:
