For the fourth winter now the neofolk/dark folk /industrial music festival Darkland Fire is inviting all music lovers to Rakvere in December. As a unique event of its kind in the nearby region, the dark music festival Darkland Fire offers a perfect opportunity to discover various shades of dark folk and industrial music, exciting symbioses and enchanting soundscapes from some of the most outstanding representatives of their genres.

This year we are proud to present the following excellent musicians at the festival:

DEUTSCH NEPAL /Sweden/ industrial ambient/
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Deutsch-Nepal-Official/114870861932547?fref=ts
http://deutschnepal.bandcamp.com/
Deutsch Nepal is a legend of industrial ambient music from Sweden. The music of Deutsch Nepal has its roots in Swedish post punk and electro-industrial music of the late 1980s. Deutsch Nepal is a solo project of Peter Andersson aka Lina Baby Doll who has always had the aspiration to create music that we have not heard around us yet. Peter Andersson has also greatly contributed to the development of industrial music as a co-founder of the legendary record company Cold Meat Industry.

SVARTSINN /Norway/ dark ambient, obscure ambient/
http://www.svartsinn.com/
Svartsinn is a solo project of Jan Roger Pettersen from Trondheim, one that cannot be overlooked when speaking about the modern dark ambient. The music of Svartsinn is a captivating journey into dark atmospheres and moods through melancholy and dark northern soundscapes. It is a journey into a world where darkness is all and nothing. In Rakvere, Svartsinn's music and its electronic side will be made even more interesting and deeper by string sounds from the cellist Leiv Amund Ulvestad.

TERVAHÄÄT /Finland/ neofolk/
http://www.animaarctica.fi/tervahaat/
Tervahäät are crisp northern neofolk emitting the chill of tundra and the warmth of live fire. Masculine Finnish folk in its best interpretation that mixes grating banjo and deep warm voices. Tervahäät manage to combine the senses of vastness and inner isolation. An advanced listening for a curious listener.

TÕNU TEPANDI /Estonia / bard, dark folk/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gINj1n7q3ig
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZL1jRBq9cY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpEQFibN66M
A timeless time-singer and bard of the 1960s whose songs have inspired and enchanted several generations. It was Tepandi who set to music poems by the Estonian exile author Karl Ristikivi, 'importing' his lyrics into the then Soviet Estonia, as well as poetry by such Estonian poets as Paul-Eerik Rummo, Jaan Kaplinksi and Hando Runnel.
Despite his long creative activity, the old master has released only two albums – Tõnu Tepandi laulud (Songs by Tõnu Tepandi) in 1982 as a vinyl that has turned almost transparent from listening in many homes and the CD Kõlakoda (Band Shell) in 2003 with newer songs.
At the Darkland Fire festival the old master Tõnu Tepandi will take out his 12-string old friend again and play an one hour concert of all his best known songs. Melancholic songs and powerful singing give every reason to call Tõnu Tepandi the grand old man of Estonian dark folk.

ANEMONE TUBE / Germany/ dark ambient, industrial/
http://www.anemonetube.de/
Anemone Tube started in 1996 and is lead by Stefan Hanser. The music of Anemone Tube is a unique and skilful mix of dark ambient, noise, power electronica, industrial music and sound art. Anemone Tube offers an intense, even psychogenic sound experience — a comprehensive and elaborate wholeness that goes far beyond the boundaries of ordinary aesthetics. The music is certainly not monotonous – constant changes in tone and mood lead to dynamic and dramatic culminations. The music of Anemone Tube gets inspiration from Buddhist psychology and nihilist philosophy as well as from such writers and directors as Michael Haneke, Hayao Miyazaki, HP Lovecraft, Yukio Mishima and J. G. Ballard.

LAMIA VOX /Russia/ dark ambient, ritual ambient/
http://facebook.com/LamiaVox
Lamia Vox is an one-girl project from St Petersburg, Russia. The music of Lamia Vox explores dark occultic realms with a very professional attitude to both melodies and composition. It is something to be experienced personally and the guests of Darkland Fire will have an excellent opportunity to enjoy her show of modern dark ambient music.

ENU KALEIDOSKOPS /Latvia/ neofolk/
http://enukaleidoskops.lv/
https://www.facebook.com/enukaleidoskops
Ēnu Kaleidoskops (The Kaleidoscope of Shadows) is currently the only internationally known Latvian neofolk band that started in 2004. The six member band of Riga could be almost called an orchestra: Mārtiņš Links – vocals, guitar, Andrejs Antonovs – bass guitar, guitar, Kristīne Antonova – flute, Klinta Alpa – cello, Kristīne Jansone – vocals and Zane Ozola – percussions. In summer 2008 Mārtiņš Links joined StandART, a dark electro band that has also played in Estonia more than once. For Ēnu Kaleidoskops it is important to create today's new mythology where shadows keep changing in the kaleidoscope of shadows.

MORGUE`S LAST CHOICE /Estonia/ dark noise, industrial/
http://remixta.net/tag/morgues-last-choice/
A noise-funeral-doom-industrial-ambient group that draws inspiration from mycology and medical problems dig its tentacles in soil in 2002 and has spread its cells quietly and persistently like cancer. Welcome to the operating theatre, Morgue's Last Choice is the band that starts this year's festival.

Amazing festival, perfectly organised by the generous hosts Risto & Vesta. A great selection of artists - despite the obvious differences in musical styles and genres, everything was integral - each single project a great surprise. My personal favorites were TERVAHÄÄT (great creative neofolk from Finland, very nice people), DEUTSCH NEPAL (Peter is just lovely, as a person and on stage, performing the Amygdala album), MORGUE`S LAST CHOICE (amazing cinematic horror industrial; B-movie influences were obvious, slow grinding sountrack-like dark industrial created with sampler, synth, e-drums and deep growls. After their 3rd track it however became a bit weird and not anymore that focused though; listen to this: http://store.remixta.net/track/hemofiilia) and LAMIA VOX (very solid neoclassical ambient, professional sound and video; lovely black haired Alina spelling bedlam verses, a bit too much witchcraft stuff for me, anyway overall pretty awesome; any rumors about her not doing the music herself are nonsense). ANEMONE TUBE`s intruiging "Dream Landscape" set, always causing vivid discussions, went obviously very well, which i conclude from the positive reactions – despite serious technical problems (not hearing myself on stage) ... I had a great time and I love Estonia!

I'm really glad to hear she's improved live because that particular performance mentioned previously was utterly embarrassing to watch. What I've heard so far from her full-lengths hasn't convinced me, though: it might be my ears but all I hear is rather plastic, shallow, by-the-book "dark ambient" ("goth ambient" is more correct, I think, as a means of describing the sound as well as the artist's background... the same probably applies to Darkrad, Halgrath, etc.).
