Some of you may find this interesting. Finnish Defence Forces has published 170.000 pictures from the wars Finland went through between 1939-1945.

At the time of writing this post the website is down, as over 100.000 people entered the site simultaneously. Should be back online soon.

I think this was in news headlines today about "people went crazy over war photos" and I recall it says million people tried to visit the site... so yeah... One has to wait quite a bit to traffic calm down.

Some years ago hundreds of photos was released, what was previously kept classified. Including winter war images of soldiers skinned, full cities killed by partisans, kids laying on fields, etc. Some of the stuff was kept secret so the fury against russians would not ignite. As if finns would have been particularly saints in any wars, hah..

Who knew Finland was even around in 1939-1945?!? I had never heard of the place until sometime in the '90s.

It's working now. Too bad all the picture texts - and thus also the search function - are in Finnish only (and in some cases, Swedish). There is quite impressive stuff there indeed... But can be hard for non-Finns to locate.

You can present all the facts you want but it doesn't make it true.

google translater says: Finnish residents' shootings of prisoners, desecration of corpses, rape, marginalized men and the fate of political prisoners in the front are the things that have not yet been studied in contrast to Germany, for example, says Professor Emerita of Women's Studies Kaija Heikkinen

book is called miehittäjän morsiamet about men and female relations during the war. sounds intresting enough.

Hopefully more enthusiastic researchers gets the old geezers to testify about the nature of war.

This book, Ruma sota (Ugly War) was also quite interesting, published already many years ago. Full of stories about cannibalism, homosexuality and overall bizarre and morbid behaviour in front lines and bunkers. Very much recommended.

Ah yea, I know someone who gave photos over for this. Pretty awesome collection there.

There needs to be more information and photos about the IKL/Lupua Movement. It's very difficult, especially in America, to find good reliable, objective material about this group.
