FreakAnimalFinland

and In The Shades of Fire - perhaps even the CD re-issue as it has more material?
I agree with Audiodissections choices! All very good - but there are also more good stuff obviously.

THE RITA HN

DRUNK ON DECAY is a favorite of mine (also features one of the greatest cover images ever).

NEHPF

Cultivating Calamity is my personal favorite. Basically where GX took the amplified eroding funnel thing into it's extreme. Awfully monotonous and lo-fi. Probably not a great starting point, but if you find yourself enjoying Drunk On Decay.

Half Aborted

Not a CD, and not even by GX himself but the Breakthrough "7 released under The Haters name (actually by David Jackman) is totally wonderful.

Maybe some of you remember ...

1 - 2 years ago I read an interview with The Haters. Herein, Jupiter told he was currently working on a project that involved digging holes in the earth/ground/sand with low-level frequencies. Would've liked to read this spread again. All pointers are welcome.

Note: If there are other sites etc presenting this project, please feel free to post this as well.

FreakAnimalFinland

Uploaded Grunt track of Finnish The Haters tribute. My part was recorded in 2004, release came out 2006. Released and compiled by mr. Haare. Includes also track by GX himself. I see one copy in Discogs for c. 10,-  Got last copy in FA distro for 5,-

The ideal introduction to the work of GX Jupitter-Larsen and The haters would be the book / CD "Drilling A Hole Through The Sky", either that or buy a couple of cheap 7"s ...

tisbor

Personal favorites:
Death-Defiying Sickness
Drunk On Decay
Ordinarily Nowhere

but yes, just grab whatever you can find, there's not much need to be picky.

Otomo_Hava

My personal choices (& my favourite ones):

In The Shade Of Fire (Hanson Record's CD reissue)
Death-Defying Sickness CD (Noisopoly)
Nikumu 2007 CD (Kubitsuri Tapes)
Merzbow + The Haters CD (Banned Production)

Worth Exploring + Listening:

These Things Happen Volumes 1 + 2 CDs (Helicopter) (Selections from 7" singles [Vol. 1] + compilation tracks [Vol. 2])

THE HATERS – Future Cheers LP
Urashima
Great LP! 1986. Sounds of destruction, but not buried under extensive distortion. Crashing glass, perhaps throwing around chains or small metal pieces. And such stuff. You can identify with sounds, instead of hearing abstract distortions. Sharp, broken, perhaps not aimed to be "as loud as possible", more just mass of industrial noise waste created in couple layers of elements. It has plenty of similarity to other older works of Haters where he uses similar sounds, but there is something in way it is done that clearly stands out as great Haters release worth to reissue!

Duncan

Always found drunk on decay to be a great go to.

NO PART OF IT

I will agree about Shade of Fire, Drunk on Decay, the CD with Merzbow (with a 20 minute out-take track that is great, and wasn't on the original release),  etc etc.

But I think some important touchstones on the world of GX/Haters is:

Big Time Crash Bang LP (car crash sounds)

and

Cultivating Calamity

and, Gx did a guest radio art / installation / podcast thing on my old radio show, I still think it's great, all 4 hours of it.

A caterpillar that goes around trying to rip the wings off of butterflies is not a more dominant caterpillar, just a caterpillar that is looking for a bigger caterpillar to crush him.  Some caterpillars are mad that they will never grow to be butterflies.
