the harsher side of Dissecting Table

Discussion of Mr Tsuji's more recent, harsher, work. Comments? Criticism? Gripes?

It was ironically-or-not the (absolutely stunning) return of Vasilisk, on 2011 split with Dissecting Table, which forced me to ingest some of the latter's recent spew.  Good spew, not great spew, I thought. Not good enough to stand up to the mighty Vasilisk. But good enough to warrant further investigation. I've since come into possession of a small stack of goodies... composed entirely of DT's newer, harsher, spewings. Slowly making my way through, and -  as a long-time fan whose interest tapered off over fifteen years ago  - with more enjoyment than I would ever have thought possible. Pulling out the score...

Zettaizetsumei
Non-Euclidean Geometry
Rancid Smell
Day Of Nemesis
No Longer Human
Right To Live
Resuscitative Treatment
Ocean Of Beings
Trial And Error
Broken Music
Intrinsically Pure
Awake In Hell
Music For Subliminal Obsession

In amongst the lowlights, there are plenty of highlights. I particularly like when things get "atmospheric": a dense cacophony of disparate elements coming together to beget something far greater than the sum of its parts - a wailing thundering mechanized horde flailing away in a nightmarish industrial-strength hell-hole. Or something. Plus reverb. This is the kind of thing I'd always felt Mr Tsuji could, and should, but sadly would all but infrequently, do: put that massive library of scrap-metal sound sources to use and – muting the urge to ruin things with cheeseball metal riffage – unleash the beast.

All I need now is to find the time to edit out all the crap I don't like and Dissecting Table could easily rank among my faves. Then again, without all the crap I don't like Dissecting Table wouldn't be Dissecting Table, would it?

This is some great news...and news to me that Vasilisk is active again.  I see there a full length as well.

As for Dissecting Table, I don't know.  The proliferation has been too much for me.

I own all those and pretty much everything else up to about 2010, all the boxsets, multiple versions, etc. After a while it all started to sound alike and i realized i probably own enough that more of the same probably wouldn't bring any more enjoyment to my life and possibly some sadness to my bank account.
Keeping in mind that i like the fact that DT kept making somewhat similar albums for most of his career, you either get a 10 track album with a bunch of 4minute long songs or more commonly throughout the 90's a 4 track with tracks between 10-14mins. The best parts on any of them are when he throws in something unexpected to the DT sound, animal noises, chanting, voice samples (radio mumbling on Transfer The Object By The Spirit), but always stuck to the formula; stalking bass, rampant relentless drums and metal clang climbing towards a violent crescendo and the dark black nightmare that awaits when your helltrain finally arrives at it's station for the breakdown, only to start back up even harder than before for the final push to the end of the song.

And that's what's been missing from his music for me since about '07, momentum. There's good parts buried deep within the hour long static-fests on many of these (limited to 6 copies) boxsets but Ichiro has stopped editing his work it seems. what used to be 1 album a year of only the very best is now everything put to tape is getting released. Far too many lazy guitar tracks that all sound alike as well (when the light streams into the soul, still alive, everything on disc 5 of Ocean of Beings, etc.)

He's still a master at his craft. One of, if not my favorite artist ever, and i'll continue to buy anything he deems worthy of pressing to pro-cd.

On a side note, all that stuff Steinklang "remastered" sounds like shit. Bricked all to hell. Didn't know remastering only involved compressing the fuck out of everything so that the entire album clips. Ichiro did the same thing with the Zigoku remaster (disc 2 of Ten Realms box). Like they listened to too much NTT and SHP and thought that sounded good.

That's sad.  Probably my favorite DS album.  Nothing about it would benefit from slamming the volume.  Music is dynamics.  Revisionist bullshit.  Thank you for mentioning it.  I'll be glad to not waste my time and money on such reissues.  Heartbreaking enough that I wouldn't even want to torrent a copy for potential reference.

Being an all-time fan of DTs early work including "Dead Zone", i had a hard time to get used his techno/noise work period end of the 90s (with his masterpiece "Groping in the Dark" http://youtu.be/bAGN79Mdbdg), afterwards he turned to even more extreme (partly unlistenable) harshnoise beginning of 2000. Now he comes up with more diversity again. His latest works are very unique experimental noise. I am also collecting his real CDs only, which are mostly released by UPD and sometimes a best of collection from previous CDR tracks.

Of his newer work these CDs are in my opinion the best:

Non-Euclidean Geometry CD http://youtu.be/Hy-EwkX-8iM
Intrinsically Pure CD
Broken Music CD
There Is No End To The Existence Of Consciousness CD
Mental Signal Transduction DVD-R

Can anyone share some details about Dissecting Table - Intrinsically Pure?  I'm curious because it is on Blood Sucker Records.  Has he used classic Japanese HC/thrash as a source?  Playing in a recognizable style towards it?  Paying homage in any way?

Intrinsically Pure has two tracks, a 46 minutes harsh noise orgy "Intrinsically Pure" and one of his best death metal style tracks "Still Alive". No hints concerning japanese hc/grind.

...bar the familiar Faux Metal Racket augmented with unhinged Tsuji rabidly intoning what sounds for all the world like "ME! SUCKY! SUCKY!"

Note that Ichiro Tsuji is none other than "One!", the original vocalist from seminal 80's HC unit Gudon, in which Blood Sucker founder "Guy" plays bass.

Tsuji/One! is the vocalizer in the below-featured, which really ought to be linked to the HC thread:

-> I like dissecting table but could use something with shorter songs. Any recommendations?

From the newer, harsher, DT? Nothing.

The few shorter -  >10min - tracks sprinkled here and there are more of that before-mentioned "faux metal racket". You'd have to go back to "Groping In The Dark" (2002), and the first set of tracks on "Ocean Of Beings" - which consists of out-takes from GITD. You could also look to the occasional retrospective - eg "Ultra Materials 1986-1991". You'd otherwise be advised to turn your attention to the mid-90's. But as most of the songs from that period are over 10min perhaps by shorter you mean "shorter than his recent epic, whole-disc-length, tracks"...?

no I mean similar artists that have that same aesthetic but don't play endless epics.
