Before they became the globetrotting champagne outfit of the last 20 years. The good socialist people of Yugoslavia must have shat themselves when they saw this.
Först när du blottar strupen ska du få nåd, ditt as...

Andrew McIntosh

Funny, I was listening to "Laibachkunstderfuge" recently and thinking what a good album it is, better than a lot of their more recent, boogie-wonderland material.

I think the good socialist people of former Yugoslavia would well have shat themselves; the good socialist authorities and media certainly did. A lot of bad socialist, and other political and anti-political ideologies, may well have been delighted if not inspired.

Leaving personal misgivings about their current musical direction aside for a moment, though, I think Laibach have always mattered. Can't think of many other groups or projects from the same background who have had the same general impact that this group has. Musically, socially, idealistically, I would argue Laibach have made a huge impact and if they've earned their Champaign along the way, all the more power to them.

I was looking if there was some other topic of Laibach, but didn't see any. After visiting LAIBACH latest gig, I was pretty inspired to give a chance to their later works. Gig was pretty good mix of new and old material. Not enough of old stuff (meaning the really old), but still good impact.
Last week finally got NATO and VOLK albums, and of course these are pretty slick electronic albums, but there is also very good moments. Thinking something like Alle Gegen Alle, which is pretty much dancefloor music, but it has the bizarre mix of warlike anthems.
Still waiting in line is WAT album and waiting to get the latest they did.. as well as finally the VOD 6xLP box set of old stuff. Which I hope will cover just the oldest of the works?!

I have been a die hard fan of LAIBACH (and anything NSK) until they released Kapital, that was too electro/synthetic for my tastes.
I enjoyed a couple of tunes on Jesus Christ (but some were just unlistenable), and I have completely loved VOLK that is perfect, suits 100% what Laibach were supposed to be in visuals/texts and sounds (although with a lighter side of course).
Their latest shows were among the best I have seen in ages.

Althought I am not a fan of 100% of their latest stuff, "Volk" is a great album in my opinion.
Also always interested on other NSK activities.

I have to check that one out. I saw Predictions of Fire years ago and though flawed I remember Žižek being good in that one.

My most treasured Laibach related release is

All day been listening to LAIBACH box on vinyl on demand. Have had this for years, but waited moment when I can go through entire box set at once time. Brilliant stuff. The older and more raw it gets, the better! It's too bad this material doesn't exist as moderately priced CD's?? Any time I talk to people who are disturbed by Laibach due having only heard their later days material, I can only advice to search old stuff, but conclude no records available...
I have the membership 5xLP version, but there exists also 99 copies "friends only" 6xLP box. Luckily I have the 6th LP as original tape in my collection.

etc. Brilliant stuff...

One would hope some label in style of Grey Area would have will to keep some classic stuff in print. Now even SPK cds has been looong unavailable as new CD's from labels... That VOD SPK box material on proper CD's would be great as well.

The same impressions. Highly recommend item. One of the best compilation release ever.

I kind of think this kind of bands play in different league.

Also all sorts of paperworks of music business enters the game. I'm highly irritated to deal with copyright organizations and such. Better to have big(ger) label who operate on field of music where they have distribution contracts etc. I would think someone like Cold Spring, who has already released Laibach old stuff, would be more suitable to do it.

I don't own much Laibach material but i do enjoy the early shit quite a bit. OPUS DEI is a total slammer, martial pop industrial genius. My favorite cd of theirs is called "REKAPITULACIJA 1980-1984"...rhythmic metal bangin similar to early Test Dept. etc...I would reccomend it to anyone here.

With Whitehouse (for different reasons) the most important project for my upbringing. Fullstop.
One of the very few projects who left a mark outside the underground with ACTION.
I hated the last record but they are still an important phenomenon I madly love.
