I'm sure it's agreed that there's a definite similarity between punk/hardcore and power electronics/noise. It's through punk that I got into P.E. and REAL industrial. I've been getting into a lot of the bands on the Youth Attack label, which is ran by Mark McCoy, who has connections to Dominick Fernow, so there's yet another link. I read that Koufar/Disgust is influenced by powerviolence bands, which is awesome. I'm sure there's a lot of other people who got into this stuff via punk/hardcore and other aggressive music. Just look at how D.I.Y. a lot of labels are (F&V, particularly). I don't know where I'm really going with this, other than trying to start some type of discussion. Haha.

I leave you with Vaccine, a band that everyone should love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v8At06QsgQ

I guess I enjoy the more artsy, bad attitude and atonal end of this stuff, can't stand bands like Fugazi who make me want to puke - I felt murderous watching their self-congratulatory hagiographical film Instrument which someone gave me. Flipper were fucking amazing. Black Flag consistently interesting and adventurous. They're responsible for an awful lot of bullshit in their wake but Nation of Ulysses were a great live band in the early 90s. Do Pussy Galore count as 'punk/hardcore' in any way? Worship their stuff. Without the Butthole Surfers I almost certainly would not be making music today.

Rudimentary Peni, every recording but especially Cacophony. Crass if I'm in the mood, usually the obnoxious sounding Yes Sir I Will.

The only Oi band I think anyone needs is the Cockney Rejects, their first two albums are just about perfect. Saw The Business live and thought they were pretty good. Whereas The Last Resort struck me as ridiculous closet homo stuff. "Oi Oi skinhead, working class!" - what a clown.

Of UK original wave weird shit before punk became generic, gotta be Alternative TV and Swell Maps. I really don't know about the punk/HC scene nowadays. When my bands play alongside these type of bands I'm usually at the bar, most of it just seems boring to my jaded ears.

I come from hardcore/oi background.
I enjoy many genre and projects, from Californian punk, to nyhc, from Italian punk to oi... there are still many good bands although it is difficult for me to follow them as I used to

I was a punk for years, making it, listening to it and identifying as it, even though I hated the usual uniform of it. But I really burnt out on it and cut the strings with the local punk scene while still recording my own version of it at home. Then I stopped, and since then have not been able to really listen to hardly any of it since. My preferences where for the more stripped down UK sound, rather than the quick paced US hardcore. These days I'm like HongKongGoolagong -

- but apart from that and the odd Dead Kennedies, I just cannot listen to the stuff.

Well, I'm also from punk background and still quite closely follow the local scene, even though I guess I'm more into it because of friends than of the music. I still enjoy fair amount of punk, though, and find new and interesting bands every now and then. I've always been most into raw and/or unordinary stuff, like most of the US classics hardly move more than into 'it is fine' -line. 77-style I haven't listened much since my teenage years and again that is something I am mostly familiar with the Finnish classics.

Thinking what I am now, I believe the punk roots are still quite easily recognisable.

I didn't find noise through punk though, I guess I'm too young to see the actual connection between the two.

Only Disgust is. First Disgust show in over a year next month and I'm performing with ACxDC, Godstomper, Miscreant, and Permanent Ruin (ex In Disgust). Amped! Hopefully a new split cs with Miscreant will be available around the time of the show.

The last hardcore album that I thoroughly enjoyed was New Lows "Harvest of the Carcass". Angriest album I've heard in a long time. Certainly MUCH more angry/frustrated/hateful then any Swedish or Finnish hardcore band has ever put out.

The charm of classic Scandinavian hardcore is hardly in the hateful/frustrated mood that can be found in some metal influenced, double bass drum driven stuff like New Lows. But rather in the honest, drunken, chaotic way of putting things out. They are hardly to be compared.

Eg. I would find it utterly embarassing if people of my age would shout out lines like cops are nazi pigs. But listening to this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZKFN9XpOD4  it is whole other ballgame.

Didn't really care for Harvest of the Carcass. Too moshy for me. Angriest current bands that I love are: Mind Eraser, Nails, SQRM, Hatred Surge, Vile Gash and Vaccine.
I can't really get into oi stuff. I've tried, but I dunno. I prefer american hardcore/punk to other things. I definitely agree with tiny_tove on age of quarrel. Great record. When it comes to Bad Brains, their s/t (roir cassette) is unmatched. It's a perfect album. Same with "My War." I prefer My War and Slip it In to any other Black Flag albums. Even Loose Nut is awesome. I've been jamming a lot of Void lately. Turbonegro too. "Apocalypse Dudes" is such a great album.

Anyone into D-Beat/Crust stuff? Tragedy and His Hero is Gone are on constant rotation for me.

NEW LOWS sounds just impotent for my ears. I think it is stange that someone finds that kind of stuff hateful!

I love Discharge, Disclose, (early) Extreme Noise Terror and stuff like that, but the stuff labeled as d-beat/crust - totally different than the classic stuff! - mostly leaves me cold. Tragedy was a big thing for me (and for most of the underground scene, I recon) when I was ten years younger but when Tragedy played at Helsinki a year ago, the gig did not impress me at all. I've been lately listening to HHIG after several years of hardly getting the records out of my shelf and that is a band I still enjoy greatly.

TK's Ääretön joulu is among my all time top 5 punk records and the Painajainen 7" definitely hits top 10 among the Finnish 7"s. I guess Mr. Umpio still has the LP+7" set of Painajainen for really affortable price - the more metal influenced lp is not bad either. Pathetic lyrics just fit some punk records so well.

Its all "hardcore" though isn't it? Never got all the hype about it due to twangy, flimsy, weak guitars, spastic drumming, and not too many memorable parts if ever. Most songs bleed into each other and it doesn't grab my attention at all. Reminds me of HNW to be honest. Same same same same same same. Lastly, bitch ass vocals to boot, and a language that I don't understand, which doesn't allow me to get a fuller grasp at what the band is trying to do. Maybe if I knew what they were yelling about, I'd get into it. I doubt it though.

But you like Nails? And don't tell me "its because they have blast beats", there are TONS of mosh parts on that first release. Fuck, when they played Chicago it was all the tough guys.

Thats cool because Finnish/Swedish hardcore are beyond impotent for me, as in where were the balls in the first place?

Lyrically New Lows is ugly, ugly, ugly. However this may not translate well with someone who doesn't have a full grasp of the language, as I mentioned earlier.

You guys excelled better at noisecore then hardcore quite frankly.

Also, probably should've mentioned them earlier but:

If you forget subgenres, both Vomir and Xeoophobic Ejaculation can be called noise. There is still plenty of difference and plenty of different things to diggest. I see a big difference between early 80s Finnish, Swedish, UK's, Italys and US west and east cost hardcore - some I like more than other, but never I have felt need to compare like Terveet Kädet to Minor Threat.

When it comes to more modern, more produced stuff, the differences become even wider. I guess it is much up to what you are used to and with what stuff are you grown with. Like I just hate certain type of sound at bass drum or at snare drum - take some random guy who have grown into post-80s metal/rock and he probably sees nothing wrong with it and asks me why I love such a awful amateurish sounding shit.

Personally I do also listen to some bits of modern and metallic hardcore but the beyond impotent stuff is the most important to me.

Trap Them straddle the line between grind/d-beat/hardcore. Great stuff.
