Combined thread for two of my favorite contemporary authors, both writing relatively dark fantasy fiction. "Jut finished The City & The City" by China Miéville. Great concept & story. Not gonna go into the storyline or spoilers (you can obviously Google info on the book or check it out on Amazon). Check out "American Gods" and "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman as well as "Good Omens" co-written with Terry Pratchett.

Perdido Streeet Station is my favorite Mieville novel. I was expecting scifi but instead got something much more unique. That guy has an amazing imagination.

The Scar was pretty epic and awesome, too.

I was hoping Iron Council would have told the story of the Iron Council that was introduced in Perdido Street Station and presented it in a similar setting but I was disappointed. This book had a lot of repetitive and boring parts. Probably the least favourite Mieville I have read. I'm glad The City & The City was much better and now I am again looking forward to reading more Mieville.

Agreed. I disliked it so much I didn't even finish it.

American Gods should be enlisted in a series of books aimed to become "mythical" in 200 years.
Fantastic.

Neil Gaiman has written the fourth episode of the new season of Doctor Who which will air on May 7.

In high school I read through most of the Sandman series but I've never read anything else by him. Gotta say the Sandman comics still hold up today. Great writing, excellent art direction and interesting characters. Can't ask for much more.

The fact that he's married to Amanda Palmer disappoints me. Can't stand her.

I think they have been among the best things ever written in Comics, despite the drawings (and the colours) were not always as good as the text.

Discussing Gaiman yesterday inspired to re-read some Sandman stuff. Pulled The Sandman: Endless Nights off the shelf. I've always liked this one because it gives a little more background info on each of the Endless and each section has a different artist. They're not all gold but Dream, Despair and Delirium stick out. Thanks to Sky Burial for the reminder of how good this stuff is!
