CONTORTUS "For Those Who Love To Cause Pain" CD

Finnish power electronics unit is back with already third full length CD album. All the known elements established with "Violence in Heat" (2017) and "Your Weakness Feeds My Cruelty" (2018) are present in the 2020 album. Instead of remaining stagnant, Contortus have managed to inject healthy amount of new elements into their work. Dark and brooding soundscapes are drifting between violent and physical songs, vicious echo makes vocals more striking than before. Among contemporary power electronics, Contortus stands out with their talented craftmanship and compositions. It is sheer vulgar violence, yet with high dose of artistic merit!


STRIATIONS "Keepsakes" CD

American power electronics project has gained recognition for almost a decade. Multiple small scale releases on tape and cdr format has been done on various labels such as Nefarious Activities, Heavy Psych, RRR, Fusty Cunt, Waterpower, New Forces, etc. When this album was offered for Freak Animal, it was clear this was absolutely the best Striation release. Due various circumstances, album remained in vaults since 2018, and meanwhile Fusty Cunt released it on LP format. Also Vietnamization was reissued as double CD by Old Captain/Eibon and Oxen label put out Collection of old tape materials on CD. Finally now in 2020, digipak CD of "Keepsakes" comes out on Freak Animal and I am still convinced this is the best Striations release. Material that was not done for tape or cdr, but intended to be album in first place. This element seems clear, while Striations certainly maintains its ugly, vile and vulgar dedication to banal horrors of abuse and violence.

Terässinfonia – Steel Symphony: Sound of Finnish experimental noise.

For 25 years Freak Animal Records has published countless releases by Finnish artists. Activities of label has played part in shaping perception how many people see the Finnish noise and experimental underground. Despite vast amount of releases, label has never given full view that would reveal diversity of expression found among Finnish scene.

After quarter of century of work, Freak Animal aimed to take a task of compilation series under title Terässinfonia. To present Finnish noisy and abstract experimental sound in wider scale. Assumption is, that there would be at least three volumes, if not more. All volumes include many projects unknown for vast majority of people. Series will illuminate that Finland is at this moment experiencing surge of creativity on this field, even if it may happen widely unnoticed.
